Hello Everyone,
I am thrilled to welcome all players, supporters, sponsors, and visiting teams to Lakelands for another exciting season of rugby. It fills me with immense pride to step into this season as your captain, especially as we aim to build on the remarkable achievements of the last few years. To be named Club Captain of Terenure College RFC for the 2024/25 season is the highest honour, and I am confident that our squad, coaches, and support team will strive relentlessly to uphold and surpass the standards we’ve set. Our focus is on working together, pushing our limits, and showcasing the very best of what this great club has to offer.
I’m delighted to congratulate Adam LaGrue and Adam Tuite on their appointments as Vice Captains. Their leadership, talent and dedication are invaluable to our team. Reflecting on my rugby journey, from my early days at Shannon RFC through to time spent with GPS Ashgrove it’s safe to say I now call Terenure home. There’s nothing quite like donning our Purple, Black and White jersey and playing for this incredible community. The past number of seasons have been absolutely amazing, although we fell short last season, the success we have enjoyed is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with Terenure. As we prepare for the new season, I am eager to see us collectively strive for new heights, both on and off the pitch. We know the challenges will be tough, but with the energy and drive from our recent pre-season, we are ready to face them head-on.
I must extend my gratitude to our coaching staff and support team , Sean Skehan, Conor Gildea, Andy Skehan, Aaron O’Connor, Paul Barr, Mark Hamilton, Arthur Fitzpatrick, Paul Murphy, Mark O’Neil, Garrett Lynch, David Fox, Richy McDonald, Ian Morgan (aka Moggy, Morgo, Crash and Migsy), Michael Mooney, Robbie Carroll, Paul Haycock, Stephen Page, Michael Henry-Hayes, Brian Fitzgerald, Billy Twomey, Billy Twomey Jnr and the incoming: Cathal Bannon, Martin Staunton and the infamous Stevie O’Neill, whose relentless work has been pivotal in shaping our team. I also want to acknowledge a special contribution to Marc Hiney who has moved on this season. Your energy and efforts are greatly appreciated.
We are deeply grateful to all our sponsors, especially our main sponsors MJ Flood. Your continued support is crucial to our success, and we look forward to achieving great things together this season. Your contributions have been fundamental to the growth and achievements of Terenure College RFC. On a personal note, I want to thank our outgoing President, Paul Crossan for your remarkable impact on the club last season. I am also excited to work closely with our new President, Paul Haycock, and I am confident that together we will reach new milestones. Our main objective this season is to win the coveted AIL. Achieving this with the diverse and talented squad we have, supplemented by our exciting new recruits, would be a dream come true. I wish all players a successful, injury-free season filled with joy and accomplishment.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our supporters. Your unwavering support, rain or shine, has been our backbone. While I can’t promise victory in every match, I can assure you that we will give it our all and deliver some thrilling rugby. We aim to make you proud every step of the way. As we embark on this new season, I am more determined than ever to make it our best yet.
Yours in Nure,
Luke Clohessy
